Blessed by Allah

Iran has reportedly enriched uranium, thus far, to a low level of 3.5%, not quite the 90% reported to be required to make a nuclear weapon. This, of course, is still some way off from producing nuclear power, let alone a weapon. However, as everyone (especially Iran) has, noted, it is indeed a milestone.

What do the people think of this accomplishment?

A physicist friend from Taiwan that I asked responded that it was clear that Iran had been blessed by Allah. I assume that much of the world may interpret events this way. Can it be disputed?

How close are we, really?

Is it the left or right that is fomenting war? Is it the Saudis, the Israelis, the Russians or the Iranians themselves? If they truly want a diplomatic situation, it may be better not to play brinkmanship. There is certainly a lot of chatter, and a lot of denial. In some ways, this feels similar to the buildup to the Iraq war, but it's missing a case being built from the WH. The WH seems to have been remarkably silent lately, and if they are going to start making a case, as they did for Iraq, however flawed, they might think about starting soon. Bush yesterday spoke of military action against Iran as "wild speculation". This doesn't sound like words from a many actively planning a military campaign -- but than again it wouldn't be the first time Bush misppoke.
